This holiday season offers the opportunity for high school students to gain “real” insights into college life. Students should visit with friends returning home from college to hear what they have to say about “the college experience.” What’s it like living away from home? How is living in dorms with roommates? What are some do’s and don’ts about college life? What are some things about college you didn’t expect? How are classes? How are on-campus social events? What do college students do on weekends?
Ask questions and try to get an overall picture of college life.
Additionally, junior year high school students should ask for advice about completing the college admission process; what are some valuable tips to heed and some pitfalls to avoid when applying to college next year? What worked and what didn’t work for your friends who applied last year?
Listening to friends who have been there, done that, with college and the college admission process should give you valuable insights into what to expect in the months ahead. Take a few minutes to learn from people you know with first-hand college experience.
